DAGUPAN CITY – The local government has declared an academic health break and suspended classes from elementary to senior high school in all public and private basic education schools in the city from January 18 to 25.
Mayor Brian Lim issued Executive Order 03-2022 on Monday (January 17), suspending online and onsite physical classes on the said dates to afford all students and teaching and nonteaching personnel a respite from physical and mental fatigue caused by the pandemic.
It will also “afford them sufficient time in determining the much needed recalibrating of minimum public health protocol in the academic institutions in the city to protect their personnel and clientele from the transmission of COVID-19,” the EO said.
However, the decision to declare an academic health break and suspend classes in tertiary institutions in the city was left to the discretion of the corresponding school authority.
To date, more than 250 teaching and nonteaching personnel, 1,000 students are reported to be experiencing cough, colds, fever and flu-like symptoms.
Four personnel of the schools’ division office and four teachers have tested positive for the viral disease. Others were waiting for their confirmatory results.
Records from the City Health Office showed that there are a total of 525 active COVID-19 cases in Dagupan. INQ
