Cops seize truckload of ‘hot’ lumber in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — A truck full of illegal lumber was intercepted by police in Candelaria town in Quezon province early Monday, police said.

Quezon police in a report said policemen conducting mobile patrol along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay (village) Malabanban Norte around 2:30 a.m. flagged down a truck being driven by Janiel Villarubia III.

The truck was found loaded with 42 flitches of still unknown lumber without the proper documents from the authorities.

The suspect was arrested and detained at the local police station.

Authorities are still conducting an investigation to determine the source of the seized illegal forest products.

The seized lumber will be turned over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Tayabas City for proper disposition.
