43 new deaths in PH bring COVID-19 death toll to 52,858

MANILA, Philippines — Additional 43 deaths brought the country’s total COVID-19 death count to 52,858 on Saturday, said the Department of Health (DOH).

According to the DOH, 38 of these deaths occurred in January, the highest recorded in a month since the year started.

The rest were backlogs from 2021 with 1 death in October, 1 in September, 1 in August, 1 in May, and another 1 in March. DOH said these backlogs are still due to the late encoding of death information to DOH’s COVIDKaya.

Active infections, on the other hand, now sits at 280,813 after the DOH reported another all-time high of 39,004 new cases.
