A different pattern on the continued prevalence of the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” was observed by the weather bureau, forecasting that the cold temperature, especially in Metro Manila and northern Luzon, may linger until next month.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Friday took note of the characteristics shown by the northeast monsoon this year, which has been prevailing in Luzon, bringing colder temperatures, including Metro Manila.
Pagasa weather specialist Nikos Peñaranda said this observation was different from the previous year and normally, there would be an interval in between the weeks of January, the peak of the northeast monsoon, that certain areas would experience dryer temperature.
“Because of the easterlies in previous years, if [the northeast monsoon] would weaken, it would weaken because of the easterlies.”
