MANILA, Philippines — The 1Sambayan coalition will endorse senatorial candidates who will publicly declare their support for the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis Pangilinan, former Supreme Court associate justice Antonio Carpio said Thursday.

Carpio, who serves as the lead convenor of 1Sambayan, said the coalition is still working on its senatorial endorsements which are expected to be revealed soon.

“One condition that we have is, we endorse you for the Senate if you declare for the Leni-Kiko ticket. We’re just waiting for that, whoever makes that declaration that they are for Leni-Kiko ticket, then we will support them for the Senate,” Carpio said during the 1Sambayan TAPATan media forum.

Asked if the current senatorial slate of Robredo and Pangilinan will be endorsed, Carpio said there are certain guest candidates that have not declared support for the tandem.

“Our condition is you must declare and the other guest candidates have not declared. You have [Francis] Escudero, [Jejomar] Binay, you have [Juan Miguel] Zubiri, and [Richard] Gordon,” Carpio said.

“If they do not declare soon, we would have to declare whoever we find acceptable and have declared for Leni-Kiko ticket,” he added.

1Sambayan already announced its endorsement of Robredo’s presidential bid back in September 2021.

“On the vice presidency, we have adopted the Leni-Kiko [Leni Robredo-Francis Pangilinan] ticket from the very start,” Carpio said.
