Senator Lacson, author in 2013?

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson is considering retiring from politics when his term ends in 2013, and write a book about his life.

“By the end of this month, I shall have served government for 40 years, 20 years as a constabulary officer, 10 years as a police officer, 10 years as a senator, minus one year wasted,” said the Senator who played a cat-and-mouse game with the National Bureau Investigation (NBI) for over a year to evade a charge alleging his role behind the abduction and liquidation of publicist Bubby Dacer and his driver, Emmanuel Corbito, in 2000.

Lacson says that by 2013, he would have been in government for 42 years. “I think that’s more than enough,” he said during a weekly forum at the Senate on Thursday .

Asked then if would quit from politics after 2013, Lacson said, “Where else to go except to go back to private life?

He said he has no intention of running for a local government post, saying local politics was not his cup of tea.

Lacson was open, however, to serve the Aquino government if offered a job.

“One thing that I won’t do is to apply for a government job,” said the senator.

Lacson believes that a person should not apply, but should wait to be tapped to perform a job in government

“But for a person or somebody like me to apply for a government job … it doesn’t sit well,” he said.

Asked again what he intends to do when he retires from politics , Lacson said, “I will write a book.”
