Northern Luzon to see cloudy skies due to new surge of northeast monsoon

MANILA, Philippines — A new surge of the northeast monsoon, locally termed amihan, will bring cloudy skies over northern Luzon, including, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, and Isabela on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Weather specialist Nikos Peñeranda said effects of the fresh northeast monsoon flow will be felt in parts of Luzon starting Tuesday night.
“Dahil po diyan, meron tayong inaasahan na mga maulap na papawirin dito sa Northern Luzon kasama ang Ilocos Norte, Cagayan at sa norte po ng Isabela,” Peñeranda said.
(Because of that, we expect cloudy skies in Northern Luzon including Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, and northern Isabela.)
Due to the surge of the northeast monsoon, Pagasa raised a gale warning over the seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, the northern coast of Cagayan, the Babuyan Islands, and Isabela.
The rest of Luzon, meanwhile, will experience relatively clearer skies and generally fair weather, Pagasa noted.
However, Peñeranda observed a chance of rain showers over Eastern Visayas and generally fair weather with chances of isolated rain showers in the rest of the Visayas and the entire Mindanao region on Wednesday.
As for the temperature range in key cities/areas across the country on January 12, Pagasa enumerated the following:
- Metro Manila: 23 to 30 degrees Celsius
- Baguio City: 12 to 21 degrees Celsius
- Laoag City: 20 to 29 degrees Celsius
- Tuguegarao: 21 to 29 degrees Celsius
- Legazpi City: 23 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Tagaytay: 20 to 29 degrees Celsius
- Kalayaan Islands: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Iloilo City: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Cebu: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius
- Tacloban City: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius
- Cagayan De Oro City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Zamboanga City: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
- Davao City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
