MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila further rose to 52 percent, independent pandemic monitor Octa Research said on Monday.

This is the second day the National Capital Region (NCR) registered an over 50-percent positivity rate. The first one was on January 9 at 50.5 percent.

Based on the benchmark of the World Health Organization, the positivity rate should be five percent or less.

Octa Research fellow Dr. Guido David told INQUIRER.net that the reproduction number in NCR from January 3 to 9 was 5.66 percent.

Reproduction number refers to the number of individuals being infected by one COVID-19 patient. The ideal reproduction number is below one, health experts earlier said.

Meanwhile, the seven-day average of COVID-19 infections was 10,407 during the same period, David said.

Metro Manila likewise posted an average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 73.50, said David.

The ADAR is the average number of new cases per 100,000 individuals.

Nationwide, the country has logged 33,169 new COVID-19 infections this day, the highest single-day tally recorded since the pandemic began.

The positivity rate across the country was listed at 46 percent, the Department of Health figures showed.
