MANILA, Philippines — Most of the new COVID-19 infections recently recorded were from the National Capital Region (NCR), independent pandemic monitor Octa Research said on Monday, citing data from the Department of Health (DOH).
The DOH on Sunday reported its highest single-day tally of new COVID-19 cases at 28,707, raising the overall case count to 2,965,447.
Octa Research fellow Dr. Guido David on Twitter showed that 16,924 of the new infections on January 9 came from NCR.

Following Metro Manila are its adjacent provinces Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, and Laguna which have around 1,000 fresh COVID-19 cases.
In a separate tweet, David noted that Quezon City topped the list of local government units with the most new COVID-19 cases at 3,633.

Trailing Quezon City are Manila City and Pasig City with 2,328 and 1,372 fresh cases, respectively.
The DOH likewise reported a record-high 44-percent positivity rate on Sunday, way above the World Health Organization’s benchmark of five percent or less.
