MANILA, Philippines – Twenty senators were present when the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona resumed on Wednesday, its 26th day since it started on Jan. 16, 2012.

The trial resumed a little past 2:00 p.m. with Corona’s defense team expected to cross-examine the last witness of the prosecution team, Danny Piedad, the cameraman of ABS-CBN.

The prosecutors rested its case against Corona Tuesday after presenting evidence and witnesses for Articles 2, 3 and 7 even before the defense lawyers could conduct its cross-examination of Piedad.

Piedad was presented by the prosecutors to prove the instances surrounding the alleged attempt of former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who are facing electoral sabotage case and other charges, to escape the country last November 15.

Arroyo’s alleged attempt to escape the country falls under Article 7 of the impeachment complaint accusing Corona of “partiality” in granting a temporary restraining order on government’s watchlist directive against the former leader.
