SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union—Ilocos Norte’s active COVID-19 cases rose to 206 on Saturday, January 8 as the province recorded at least 130 new COVID-19 cases in the past two days, data from the provincial government showed.
There were 69 new COVID-19 infections logged on Saturday and 61 o. Friday.
No new recoveries and deaths were recorded by the provincial government on Saturday.
The total number of cases recorded in the province since the pandemic broke out in 2020 stands at 19,160.
Most of the new cases have been traced to the capital city of Laoag with 20 new infections and Batac City with 18 cases, the provincial government said.
Laoag went back as a “red zone” for having at least 71 active COVID-19 cases, the data showed.
The Department of Health’s (DOH) COVID-19 tracker showed that the province’s average daily attack rate was at 1.70 per 100,000 population on Saturday.
Almost all the towns and cities in the province have active cases, except for the Adams, Carasi, and Nueva Era, the provincial government said.
In Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital in Batac City, at least six workers had contracted the virus on Saturday, pushing the number of isolated personnel to 15.
The hospital reported that it was treating nine confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 10 suspect and probable cases.
The DOH said that at least 19.1 percent of the 220 beds devoted to COVID-19 patients were occupied as of Friday.
All of the COVID-19 facilities in the province remained to be under the safe level so far, it added.
