Gemstone center in Myanmar’s Mandalay hit by bombs, one killed

Bombs exploded at a gemstone center in the city of Mandalay on the morning of January 4 killing a person, according to local sources.

The bomb explosions occurred at the gemstone center located between 86th and 87th Streets and between 39th and 40th Streets in Mahaaungmyay Township, Mandalay Region.

There were two bomb blasts and a gemstone dealer who spent the night at his shop in the compound of the center was reportedly killed.

“The explosions occurred at about 8am. It is learned that he had spent the night there. The blast occurred as he went out of his shop to throw away garbage. The blast came from the garbage bin. It was a huge explosion,” said a local jade dealer.

U Tin Hla, aged 44, was found dead with his legs and arms cut off and his face turning brown.
