MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Wednesday said it would investigate the New Year’s Day riot at New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, which left three dead and 14 more injured.
The Bureau of Corrections earlier said a riot broke out in the dormitories at the East Quadrant and prisoners had used improvised firearms to shoot at each other.
Three more improvised firearms were surrendered later by other inmates. A similar incident happened at Bilibid in October 2020 and there were also riots in October and November last year.
