2 motorcycle riders dead, 3 hurt in Batangas road accidents

LUCENA CITY – Two died and three others were injured in two separate road accidents in Batangas City and Lian town in Batangas province on Monday, report said Tuesday.

Batangas police reported that a motorcycle ridden by Mark Joseph Vecinal, 39, and his pillion-rider, Marie Lagrisola–Vicenal, 49, while parked on the right side of the road was accidentally bumped from behind by a car driven by Christine Michelle Potian, 30, on Barangay (village) Poblacion 4 in Lian around 6 p.m.

The two riders sustained serious injuries and were taken to Apacible Memorial District Hospital but Marie died along the way.
Potian was detained and is now facing charges.

In Batangas City, motorcyclist Tyron Dela Cruz, 46, lost control of his vehicle and consequently crashed into the plastic barriers at the center island in a section of the highway in Barangay Bolbok around 9:20 p.m.

De la Cruz and his two back-riders Edward Benedict Panopio and Ariel Arojado, sustained injuries and were taken to Batangas Medical Center.

However, De la Cruz died along the way to the hospital.

The report did not state whether or not the victims were wearing crash helmets.
