LUCENA CITY — The regional director of the Philippine National Police in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, Rizal) region honored a police officer who was killed in the performance of his duty in Bauan town in Batangas province.

Police Brigadier General Eliseo Cruz, commander of Police Regional Office 4 (PRO4), conferred the “Medalya ng Kadakilaan” (Heroism Medal) to the family of Police Corporal Reynan Manalo on Tuesday.

Cruz offered his sympathy and condolences to the family of the policeman in a press statement posted by the regional police on its Facebook page.

Cruz also gave financial assistance to the police officer’s family.

On January 1, Bauan police reported that Manalo and two other policemen responded to an alarm–an attempted stabbing incident–in Barangay (village) San Teodoro at around 10:45 a.m.

Upon arrival at the site, the police found the suspect Jollyben Montoya armed with a bladed weapon.

Despite attempts of negotiation, the suspect suddenly assaulted Manalo and stabbed him on different parts of his body.

The two other policemen retaliated and shot dead Montoya.

Manalo expired while undergoing treatment at Bauan Doctor’s General Hospital 25 minutes later.
