DOH: Ilocos region has administered over 5 million COVID-19 vaccines

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—Over five million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were already administered to residents in the Ilocos region, data from the regional Department of Health (DOH) showed on Monday, Jan. 3.

The DOH said at least 2,615,605 individuals were already fully vaccinated against the disease while 3,206,656 had received at least one dose of the vaccines.

Some 64,444 residents in the region had also received their COVID-19 booter shots, the same data showed.

The region is targeting to vaccinate at least 3,719,256 individuals to achieve herd immunity against the disease, the DOH said.

In Ilocos Norte, the provincial government said 86 percent of the 431,801 target population for herd immunity had been fully vaccinated while 106 percent of the target had been partially vaccinated.

In Ilocos Sur, at least 416,841 individuals, or 82.62 percent of the target 504,179-population in the province had been fully inoculated, according to the provincial health office.

On Jan. 3, the DOH had classified the Ilocos region as “minimal risk” for COVID-19 infections, with an average daily attack rate of 0.28 per 100,000 population in the past two weeks.
