MANILA, Philippines — The Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, or Quiapo Church, will be temporarily closed from Jan. 3 to Jan. 6 amid the rising number of COVID-19 infections.

Fr. Douglas Badong, parochial vicar of Quiapo Church, announced on the church’s Facebook page that it would reopen on Jan. 7 in preparation for the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Jan. 9.

Badong said they would disinfect and clean the church during its temporary closure.

“This is part of our preventive measures … so we call on everyone to unite with us and our local government to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” Badong said.
