Pro-Corona judge named Supreme Court deputy administrator

The Manila judge who drew parallels between President Benigno Aquino III and Adolf Hitler in the debate on the impeachment of Chief Justice Renato Corona has been named the Supreme Court’s new deputy court administrator.

Supreme Court spokesperson Midas Marquez said the tribunal voted to appoint Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Antonio Eugenio as the new deputy court administrator to replace retired deputy administrator Edwin Villasor who retired a few months ago.

“The en banc voted 9-3-1 in choosing him. Two justices were on leave,” Marquez said in a briefing.

He said there were 11 candidates for the position.

Eugenio is president of the Manila Regional Trial Court Judges Association and a vocal supporter of Corona.

Eugenio earlier denounced the House of Representatives’ decision to impeach the beleaguered chief justice.

“They act, they measure righteousness by sheer numbers. They act on the basis of popularity…,” said Eugenio.

“I remember history. When Adolf Hitler assumed power in Germany, he was a most popular figure. He put up the Third Reich and trampled on the rights of everyone because he was very popular. We know what happened to him,” the judge added.
