MANILA, Philippines — Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano has contracted SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 for the second time, the Pasay City Public Information Office (PIO) said Sunday.
According to her chief of staff Peter Eric Pardo, the local chief executive tested positive on Saturday, after experiencing a sore throat.
Calixto-Rubiano, who first contracted the virus in early February 2021, is now under isolation in a health facility.
However, the Pasay City PIO said the mayor will still perform her official duties as the city’s local chief executive and will hold meetings online while she recovers.
The Department of Health earlier logged 4,600 new cases nationwide, bringing the country’s total cases to 2,851,931.
