MANILA, Philippines — Davao City mayor and vice-presidential aspirant Sara Duterte-Carpio welcomed the New Year with a song from Taylor Swift.

Duterte-Carpio posted on Instagram Saturday, New Year’s Day, a selfie with the lyrics of Taylor Swift’s hit song “22” as its caption.

The aspiring vice president could be seen wearing a striped red blouse.

She, however, inserted “2022” in the song’s lyrics.

“I gotta have you. I gotta have you 2022,” she wrote.

This is not the first time Duterte-Carpio referenced a song from Taylor Swift.

In November 2021, she posted another photo of her with a caption “all too well,” seemingly referring to Taylor Swift’s song “All Too Well.”

Her post coincided with the release of the song’s short film on Nov. 13, which took social media by storm. It also coincided with the day she filed her certificate of candidacy for vice president via substitution.

Many have been urging her to run for president but she instead ran for the second-highest post with former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who is also a son of a former dictator, as her running mate.
