MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga–The City of San Fernando registered Wednesday and Thursday 10 new COVID-19 patients, bringing the active cases to 12.

Data from the city health office showed that the provincial capital was free of COVID-19 from Dec. 22 until Dec. 27, but on Dec. 28, it recorded two new COVID-19 cases–-one in Bulaon village and another in Saguin.

On Dec. 30, five more cases were added to the list. These include two patients from Magliman village, two from Saguin, and one from San Agustin.

Residents who commented on the city government’s Facebook page expressed their disappointment over the new COVID-19 cases in the capital city.

“There are many children in the public market, jeepneys no longer have plastic dividers, and passengers are seated very close to one another,” a netizen said.

“Other people think it (situation) is already okay, so they ignore basic health protocols,” another said.

In its bulletin, city government officials reminded the public to always wear face masks outside, and observe physical distancing.

Some netizens believed that such reminders would be futile if no one would enforce them. They said people gather for videoke and drinking sessions and parties as if the pandemic was already over.
