MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte and Senate President Vicente Sotto III are technically tied for being the most trusted and best performing public officials in the country, a Pulse Asia survey conducted from December 1 to 6, 2021, showed.
Sotto registered a 71 percent approval and performance rating, which is one percent higher than his September 2021 rating of 70 percent. Sotto’s good and consistent performance as a government leader was once again affirmed in the latest Pulse Asia survey.
“I am humbled by our kababayans’ trust and confidence in me. All the hard work and late nights of discussing, debating, and scrutinizing crucial documents and data at the Senate are worth it,” Sotto said.
He added: “I will continue what I have started not only as Senate President but as a public servant: putting premium and dedication to my work and always bearing in mind how to elevate the lives of our people, not the next elections.”
Under Sotto’s stewardship, the Senate has approved and ratified the 2022 national budget, which is focused on responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and springing back the economy, which has tumbled due to the lockdowns and other restrictions imposed to control the spread of the coronavirus disease.
The Senate has likewise looked into corruption allegations against executive officials and passed measures to give more teeth to the government’s fight against graft.
Just recently, Sotto quietly extended assistance to families who were adversely affected by typhoon “Odette” in Iloilo, Cebu, Lanao, Iligan, Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro and Surigao.
Sotto is running for vice president in the 2022 national elections, alongside Sen. Panfilo Lacson who is gunning for president.
