MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––Barely a week after the City of San Fernando was declared free of COVID-19, the capital city recorded two new cases on Tuesday, Dec. 28.
In its latest bulletin, the city government said one case was registered in Bulaon village and another in Barangay Saguin.
On Dec. 22, the City of San Fernando announced its COVID-free status after the lone case in Del Rosario village recovered from the disease. The patient got well two weeks after contracting COVID-19.
On Tuesday, the city government also registered zero recoveries and deaths.
Since the pandemic started last year, it has recorded 11,286 COVID-19 cases, of which 10,956 have recovered, while 328 had died.
Some residents who commented on the San Fernando’s Facebook page said many people no longer abide by minimum health protocols since the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases placed Pampanga under Alert Level 2 in November this year.
“It’s starting once again because people are now free. Passengers of jeepneys are now seated close to one another,” a netizen said.
Other residents said jeepney drivers no longer care about social distancing because they load their vehicles with passengers as if no protocols had to be observed.
“Drivers still get passengers even if their jeepneys are already loaded and policemen seem not to notice this,” a resident added.
