MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Tuesday posted bail of P36,000 after the Pasay City prosecutor decided to pursue wiretapping charges case filed against her by former Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II four years ago.
The senator said Aguirre should not have blamed her if he was photographed during a Senate inquiry in 2017 sending a text message that could be read in the photograph.
Hontiveros claimed in a privilege speech on Sept. 11, 2017, that Aguirre and former Rep. Jacinto Paras, now a presidential political adviser, were supposedly conspiring to file charges against her.
A Dec. 27 warrant of arrest issued by the presiding judge was recalled and set aside after Hontiveros secured her temporary liberty. The court set her arraignment on Jan. 21.
