Average number of new COVID-19 cases in NCR rises – OCTA

MANILA, Philippines — The average number of new COVID-19 cases has increased in the National Capital Region (NCR) by 64 percent, the OCTA Research group said on Tuesday.
According to OCTA fellow Guido David, the average COVID-19 cases has increased from 77 (December 14 to 20) to 120 (December 21 to 27), putting the current average daily attack rate (ADAR) or the incidence rate to 0.89 per day per 100,000.
The reproduction number also increased to 0.98, while the test positivity rate was at 1.68 or 1.7 percent.
While OCTA still classified NCR in general as “low risk,” two local government units (LGUs) — Manila and San Juan — were placed under moderate risk.
Meanwhile, 10 LGUs (Caloocan, Malabon, Marikina, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Makati, Las Piñas) were classified as “low risk,” while the remaining five NCR LGUs (Pateros, Valenzuela, Quezon City, Pasig and Taguig) are classified as “very low risk.
San Juan had the highest infection rate at 1.82 percent among the LGUs, followed by Manila with 1.57 percent. Both numbers are classified as critical in terms of infection rate.

The Philippines on Tuesday registered 421 new coronavirus cases and 2 additional deaths, with a positivity rate of 2.6 percent. The DOH said that with the new infections, the overall case count rose to 2,839,111.
