2 killed as fire razes ‘ukay-ukay’ store in Bulacan
CITY OF MEYCAUAYAN, Bulacan––A 60-year-old owner of an “ukay-ukay (used clothing)” shop and her 17-year-old worker died Tuesday after a fire gutted the commercial place they were renting in this city, police said.
Col. Manuel Lukban Jr., Bulacan police director, identified the fatalities as Milagros Glorioso, the store owner, and Jackie Arevalo, both from Barangay Pandayan in Meycauayan.
Lukban said the victims’ bodies were found on the second floor of the 2-story building beside the People’s Market in Barangay Poblacion.
The fire that started at 2:13 a.m. lasted for more than an hour, investigators said.
SFO3 Emil Tanjuan, Bureau of Fire Protection investigator, said the victims’ remains were found beside the windows on the second floor. Glorioso’s body was completely charred, Tanjuan added.
Electrical connection and wiring problem from the ground floor could have caused the blaze, investigators said. INQ
