MANILA, Philippines—Chief Justice Renato Corona will not attend the grand gathering of members of Iglesia ni Cristo Tuesday at Quirino Grandstand, Supreme Court Spokesman Jose Midas Marquez said.

“The Chief Justice will not attend the prayer and evangelical mission to avoid accusations that he is using the prayer rally for political purposes,” Marquez told reporters at a press conference held at the Supreme Court’s Division hearing room.

“Just the same, he congratulates the INC for its important role in shaping the spiritual lives of millions of Filipinos,” he added.
