MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a “clustering” of water-borne diseases in regions hit by Typhoon Odette, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said during the weekly meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte and other Cabinet officials that aired late on Monday night.
“We have recorded a clustering of water-borne in the affected regions,” Duque said in Filipino.
According to Duque, the DOH has so far recorded 80 cases of acute gastroenteritis. The patients have been admitted to the Dinagat District Hospital.
Meanwhile, 54 diarrhea patients are currently being treated at the Siargao District Hospital.
Duque said 16 diarrhea cases in Cebu Province are being verified by the DOH’s regional center for health development.
“We continue to monitor ng clustering of these water-borne diseases, and we have sent off needed medicines and logistical support in order to address their health needs,” he said.
Meanwhile, Duque said the DOH has so far extended P22.1 million worth of logistical support to regions affected by the typhoon.
Some P8.8 million worth of drugs, medicines, medical supplies, and health kits were sent off from the DOH central office to Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas (Regions 4B, 6, and 7, respectively), and the Caraga Region.
