PH logs 318 new COVID-19 infections; active cases slightly rise to 9,579

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported an additional 318 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 255 recoveries on Monday, slightly increasing active cases to 9,579.

This is the fourth consecutive day the DOH has recorded more infections than recoveries.

According to the DOH, 99 percent or 315 of the 318 cases occurred within the recent 14 days, with the National Capital Region listed as the top region with 130 cases or 41 percent in the recent two weeks; followed by Region 4-A with 51 or 16 percent; and Region 3 with 28 or 9 percent.

The positivity rate was recorded at 2.2 percent out of 14,237 tests conducted, however, DOH noted that 28 laboratories were not able to submit its data to the health department.

With this, total confirmed cases are now at 2,838,792, while recoveries are at 2,778,002.

Meanwhile, of the active cases, DOH said 42.7 percent suffer mild or asymptomatic cases, specifically, 3,644 individuals suffer mild cases, 445 asymptomatic, 3,339 moderate, 1,777 severe, and 374 critical.

The DOH also recorded 11 new deaths, increasing the death toll to 51,211.

These numbers were logged while two laboratories were not operational, and 26 labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System on the tests conducted on Dec. 13, said the DOH.

“Of these 26 laboratories, 12 confirmed that they were closed and non-operating on December 25, 2021. Based on data in the last 14 days, the 28 non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 9.5% of samples tested and 6.4% of positive individuals,” said the DOH.

The DOH also said that it removed from the total case count the 166 cases that were found to have tested negative for the new coronavirus.

“These 166 are recoveries,” it noted.

Moreover, the DOH said 5 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
