CITY OF MALOLOS—The number of active COVID-19 cases in Bulacan province has plummeted below the 100-mark since Thursday, Dec. 23, prompting local officials to prepare for the least restrictive alert level by January 2022.
Local data show that the active infections in the province stand at 84 on Friday and 98 the previous day.
Most of the remaining virus-infected patients are undergoing home quarantine. At least 23 of them are either in hospitals or quarantine facilities.
The improving COVID-19 situation in the province has been associated with the high vaccination rate among its residents, said Gov. Daniel Fernando.
As of Thursday, over 3.5 million of the 3.7-million population of the province had been inoculated with the first or second dose of the vaccine.
Dr. Marushka Celis, Bulacan COVID-19 Task Force vice-chair, said mass vaccination in the province would continue as they target to inoculate between 80 to 90 percent of the population.
Since last year, the province has logged 91,942 COVID-19 cases with 1,478 deaths and 90,380 recoveries.
