MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Wednesday logged 261 new COVID-19 cases and 122 additional fatalities.
The Department of Health (DOH) said that with the fresh infections, the overall case count rose to 2,837,784.
Of the 261 new infections, 247 contracted the coronavirus the past two weeks. Most of the cases in the past 14 days were logged in Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, the death toll climbed to 50,916. Fifteen of the 122 additional fatalities happened within the month, 17 in November, 39 in October, 27 in September, 10 in August, five in July, two in June, one in May, two in April, one in August 2020, two in July 2020, and one in April 2020.
The recovery tally is now at 2,777,630 as 395 more patients beat the virus.
Active cases are currently at 9,238. Of these, 3,400 are moderate cases, 3,153 are mild cases, 1,801 are severe cases, 507 are asymptomatic, and 377 are critical cases.
The country on December 20 conducted 29,577 COVID-19 tests and 0.9 percent had a positive result.
The DOH noted that two laboratories were not operational on December 20 while 12 others failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
The DOH said that four recoveries were removed from the total case count as these are duplicates.
Also, 192 cases which were negatives after validation were also withdrawn from the case tally.
Further, 113 cases, initially tagged as recoveries, were reclassified as fatalities after final validation.
