Duterte appoints DICT acting secretary
ANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Emmanuel “Manny” Rey R. Caintic as acting secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) following the resignation of Gregorio Honasan II, who is running for senator in the 2022 elections.
Caintic was DICT Undersecretary for Digital Philippines before being named chief of the department. His appointment was first reported by newsbytes.ph.
“Our marching orders remain the same: to connect all Filipinos to the benefits of the digital economy, wherever they are in the country,” Caintic said in the statement.
Caintic has a dual degree in physics and computer engineering from the Ateneo de Manila University.
Before joining the government, he gained over two decades of experience in digital transformation, enterprise architecture, and systems implementation in various ventures, the DICT said.
Caintic joined the DICT when Honasan was tapped to run the department in 2019.
