‘Odette’ strong winds cause 3 vessels to run aground — PCG

TINGNAN: Kaninang madaling araw, ika-19 ng Disyembre 2021, puspusan ang pagtatrabaho ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Western Visayas para maisakay sa BRP Nueva Vizcaya (SARV-3502) ang 150 piraso ng repair kit, 30 piraso ng inflatable shelter, at 20 kahon ng kumot na ipapamahagi sa mga apektadong pamilya ng Bagyong #OdettePH sa Negros Occidental.

BACOLOD CITY — Three vessels ran aground in Negros Occidental during the onslaught of typhoon “Odette” on Dec. 16. So far, no oil spills had been detected, the Philippine Coast Guard reported Sunday, October 19.

The LCT Citic 102 was discovered aground at the stern in the vicinity of the Petron pipeline in Barangay Banago, Bacolod, on Saturday, December 18.

An underwater ocular inspection by the firm’s diver showed that the vessel was sitting on top of Petron’s receiving pipeline, the PCG said.

The captain of the vessel was told to loosen anchor to avoid damaging the pipeline.

The MT Mary Queen of Hope was also discovered aground on the Camponames Bay in Barangay Maricalum, Sipalay City, Saturday afternoon.

The vessel left the BREDCO Port anchorage area in Bacolod City on December 15 for Sipalay City to seek shelter from the typhoon, the PCG said.

An assessment of the hull shows that there is no oil spill but the starboard engine at the bottom is damaged, it added.

MV Jake Vincent Dos also ran aground in the vicinity of the BREDCO Port, the PCG said.

The vessel has been abandoned for two years and was anchored in the vicinity of BREDCO anchorage area.

No oil spill was found as the vessel’s tanks were empty and it is not a danger to navigation, the PCG assured.
