CEBU CITY– President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to provide P2-billion aid to Bohol, where at least 63 people were killed during the onslaught of Typhoon Odette last Dec. 16.
Reports from the Office of the Presidential Assistance in the Visayas (OPAV) said P1 billion of the assistance would go to the province’s local government units while the other P1 billion would go to the national government agencies tasked with the rehabilitation works.
The National Housing Authority would provide P5,000 to P30,000 in shelter assistance to each typhoon victim, depending on the severity of the damage.
The President said that food and water would be provided as soon as possible upon the request of Bohol Gov. Arthur Yap who met Duterte on Sunday (Dec. 19) afternoon.
Yap was also hoping for a generator set that has a capacity of at least 15 horse power to improve communication with the LGUs.
The President, along with Senator Bong Go, flew to Bohol to inspect the damage caused by Odette in the province.
He came from Cebu where he proceeded to Argao town in the south to assess the damage.
Aside from Go, among those with the President in Cebu were Secretaries William Dar of Agriculture, Rolando Bautista of Social Welfare and Development, and Michael Dino of OPAV; and Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and Civil Defense administrator.
From Argao, the President proceeded to Inabanga but only Senator Go went with him.
From Bohol, Duterte proceeded to Davao City.
