Pagasa puts Kalayaan Islands under Signal No. 2 even if Odette out of PAR

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau on Saturday put Kalayaan Islands under Tropical Wind Signal No. 2 even though Typhoon Odette had already exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Damaging gale to storm-force winds are blowing in the area or are expected to do so in the next 24 hours. The islands will also have heavy to torrential rainfall, according to the 11 p.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The waters in the area will be rough to very rough with 4.5 to 12.0 meters of waves, making it risky for all types of sea vessels.

The eye of Odette was last located 180 kilometers northwest of Pag-asa Island, blowing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) with a gustiness of up to 230 kph.

Odette exited the PAR on Saturday afternoon and is moving northwest east of central Vietnam and Hainan Island.

Odette left a trail of destruction, with 31 dead and three others were injured, according to the government.
