Man, 60, dies while trying to seek shelter amid typhoon Odette in Bohol

A 60-year-old man here who was trying to seek refuge inside the chapel while super typhoon “Odette” barreled across Bohol on Thursday night was killed after he was hit by hollow block and steel bars.

ALICIA, Bohol — A 60-year-old man here who was trying to seek refuge inside a chapel while super typhoon “Odette” barreled across Bohol on Thursday night died after being hit by a hollow block and steel bars.

The victim was identify as Joaquin Butil Felecio, 60, a resident of Purok 7 of Barangay Cabatang, Alicia.

According to Beatrice Felicio, Joaquin’s wife, her husband and a neighbor Edgar Balwang decided to take refuge inside a small chapel since they could no longer proceed to Cabatang Elementary School that was used as an evacuation center where she was waiting for him.

While inside the chapel, hollow blocks and steel bars blown by the strong wind hit the two.

Joaquin died on the spot, while Balwang suffered some injuries.

According to the Bohol Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the super typhoon badly damaged homes, buildings, establishments and government facilities and infrastructure, as well as communication facilities and power lines, in Bohol.
