AirAsia cancels Manila – Cebu flights due to MCIA closure; recovery flights scheduled
MANILA, Philippines — AirAsia Philippines on Saturday announced the cancellation of Manila-Cebu-Manila flights following the closure of Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) which was battered by Typhoon Odette.
GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation, operator of the MCIA, extended the closure of the airport until Sunday, December 19, the airline noted.
Air Asia spokesperson Steve Dailisan said the airline will schedule special recovery flights for affected travelers.
“Safety is always the topmost priority of AirAsia. We know how flights home are incredibly important for all of our guests especially since we are only days away from Christmas. That’s why we are mounting special recovery flights to make sure they can reach home safely and as soon as possible. We likewise advise our guests to monitor SMS notifications, email and AirAsia social media platforms for timely updates on flight schedules,” Dailisan said in a statement.

Aside from the recovery flights, affected passengers may also change their travel date before March 26, 2022 for an unlimited number of times with fare difference waived, and subject to seat availability.
