Volunteer groups of presidential aspirants launch ‘Odette’ relief efforts
MANILA, Philippines — Various volunteer groups supporting the 2022 presidential aspirants have mobilized to distribute relief goods and help out Filipinos affected by Typhoon Odette.
Supporters of presidential aspirants Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. distributed relief goods to the typhoon victims.
In a statement Friday, the UniTeam volunteer network, which is supporting Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, said relief packs containing 5 kilograms of rice, assorted canned goods such as sardines, corned beef, meatloaf, milk, and instant coffee were prepared. Marcos is running for president while Duterte-Carpio is seeking the vice presidency in the 2022 polls.
The UniTeam volunteer network added that members were already alerted to distribute the relief goods in critical areas.
According to the volunteer group, it has so far prepared 6,000 relief packs for the province of Samar, 6,000 for Leyte, 2,000 for Tacloban, and 6,000 for Masbate.
Meanwhile, Robredo’s supporters served hot food to evacuees while others packed relief goods, according to a statement released by the Vice President’s media team Thursday.
Her supporters are also collecting storm reports to share with other volunteers to assess where help is urgently needed.
On Thursday, Robredo People’s Council (RPC) volunteers in Sogod, Southern Leyte served around 200 cups of champorado (chocolate rice porridge) at a school where the families are temporarily staying, the statement read.
Relief packs were also prepared for distribution in Arteche, Eastern Samar, and in Tacloban, Leyte.

The Maasin Youth for Leni also mobilized and distributed relief packs in the villages of Sorosoro, Mambajao, Asuncion, Rizal, Tagnipa, and Mantahan in Southern Leyte.
In Taft, Eastern Samar, volunteers prepared lugaw (rice porridge) for more than 700 evacuees who were staying at the Taft National High School, Municipal Evacuation Center, and the Taft Central Elementary School, it added.
Food was also distributed by the Leni-Kiko Volunteers from the Robredo People’s Council (RPC) to evacuees in Surigao City.
The Maasin Youth for Leni also mobilized and distributed relief packs in the villages of Sorosoro, Mambajao, Asuncion, Rizal, Tagnipa, and Mantahan in Southern Leyte, according to Robredo’s office.
Earlier, Robredo said she has been in contact with local government units on the track of the typhoon.
