Typhoon Odette shuts down power lines in parts of Vis-Min

MANILA, Philippines — Over 30 transmission lines are currently out of commission in the Visayas and Mindanao due to Typhoon Odette, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said on Friday.

The NGCP listed the following transmission lines as unavailable due to the typhoon:

Apart from these lines, 14 other 138kV lines are also unavailable, affecting the entire province of Surigao del Norte as well as parts of Surigao del Sur, parts of Agusan del Sur, and the entire province of Bohol. 

“NGCP’s 350kV HVDC Line and two 230kV lines are also unavailable,” said the NGCP in a statement.

“Inspection and restoration of lines in the affected areas will be in full swing as soon as the weather allows,” it added.

In the state weather bureau’s latest advisory as of 5:00 a.m, Friday,  “Odette” was spotted over the Panay Gulf and heading towards Palawan.

Several areas are still under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3.
