‘Odette’ now over Panay Gulf as it heads towards Palawan — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines —  Typhoon “Odette” continues to head towards Palawan as it coasts over the Panay Gulf, said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) on Friday morning.

In Pagasa’s 5 a.m. storm advisory, the eye of Odette is now located 75 kilometers (km) southwest of Iloilo City, as of 4:00 a.m.

The typhoon slightly weakened as it currently carries maximum sustained winds of 155 km per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 235 kph, while moving westward at 35 kph.

It is expected to make landfall in the vicinity of the northern or central portion of Palawan on Friday afternoon.

Rainfall warning for Friday

With this forecast, Pagasa warned that heavy to torrential rains are expected to prevail over Western Visayas and the Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands, and Negros Oriental on Friday.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains are expected over the Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Quezon, and the rest of Mimaropa.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains are then expected over the Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Aurora, Lanao del Sur, and the rest of Visayas,

No more areas are currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4, but Signal No. 3 remains hoisted in these areas:

  • The northern portion of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Araceli, Dumaran, Roxas, San Vicente, Puerto Princesa City) including Cagayancillo and Cuyo Islands
