MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Thursday 47 more deaths due to COVID-19 complications, which include fatalities from as late as January.
According to DOH, only five of the 47 deaths occurred in December, while four happened in November, 25 in October, 10 in September, and one each in April, March, and January.
The late reporting was “due to late encoding of death information.”
“This issue is currently being coordinated with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units to ensure information is up to date,” the DOH said.
COVID-19 deaths peaked in September with 7,307 total fatalities or an average of 244 deaths per day.
This then dropped to 4,835 total deaths or 156 deaths per day in October; 1,163 total or 39 per day in November; and 47 total fatalities or an average of five deaths per day from December 1 to 9.
Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 50,496 COVID-19 patients have died. They compose 1.78 percent of all the 2.83 million confirmed cases of the disease in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, 2.77 million or 97.9 percent have recovered. The 10,095 active cases only compose 0.4 percent of the tally.
