Fire in Quezon City slum area blamed on illegal power connection
An hour-long fire being blamed on an illegal power connection razed several homes in a slum community in Quezon City on Sunday night.
Over 30 families were left homeless by the blaze, which destroyed around 20 shanties on Block 6, Ronas Garden, at Loyola Heights.
Arson investigator Fire Officer 1 Jovelyn Panganiban said they were checking claims that an illegal electrical connection could be the cause of the fire.
The blaze reportedly began in the house of Larry Dillo around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Witnesses said they saw electrical sparks before the fire broke out and spread to neighboring houses in the area.
The blaze soon reached the third alarm until firefighters placed it under control at 8:35 p.m.
