MANILA, Philippines — An additional 237 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 565 recoveries were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, further decreasing active cases to 10,192, the second-lowest recorded daily count for new cases since May 23, 2020, only slightly higher than Tuesday’s 235 cases.
According to the DOH, 91 percent or 215 of the 237 cases occurred within the recent 14 days, this marks the 22nd consecutive day the country recorded less than 1,000 cases per day.
The positivity rate was recorded at 1 percent out of 30,397 tests conducted, however, DOH noted that 11 laboratories were not able to submit their data to the health department.
With this, the total confirmed cases are now at 2,836,915, while recoveries are at 2,776,273.
Meanwhile, of the active cases, DOH said 43.6 percent suffer mild or asymptomatic cases, specifically, 3,876 individuals suffer mild cases, 567 asymptomatic, 3,592 moderate, 1,867 severe, and 391 critical.
The DOH also recorded 100 new deaths, increasing the death toll to 50,449.
These numbers were logged while four laboratories were not operational, and seven labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System on the tests conducted on Dec. 13, said the DOH.
These 11 labs contribute, on average, 0.8 percent of samples tested and 0.6 percent of positive individuals.
The health agency likewise said that 9 duplicates were removed from the total case count, six of which were recoveries while two were deaths.
The DOH also said that it removed from the total case count the 181 cases that were found to have tested negative for the new coronavirus.
“These 181 are recoveries,” it noted.
Moreover, the DOH said 96 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
