LEGAZPI CITY – The Bicol region  on Saturday night was placed under “blue alert” status as disaster authorities here are bracing for moderate to heavy rain spawned by the tail-end of shear line that could affect the region, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) said on Sunday.

Claudio Yucot, RDRRMC chair, directed all provincial, town, and city disaster councils to activate their respective 24/7 emergency operations centers (EOC) to closely monitor weather conditions and disseminate the weather advisories to various barangay DRRM committees.

Yucot advised all local disaster councils to closely monitor the effects of the tail-end of a shear line which has on Saturday night already dumped heavy rain and brought strong winds that could trigger floods, lahar flow, and landslides in low-lying areas and mountain slopes.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and various disaster councils were also directed to implement a localized no sailing policy.

Various disaster response agencies were requested to make available their respective assets for possible deployment once the weather condition worsens.
