Pedestrian dies in Quezon highway mishap

LUCENA CITY – A 49-year-old woman died after she was hit by a speeding truck while crossing Maharlika Highway in Tiaong, Quezon before midnight Saturday.

Tiaong police reported that Lalina Alcedo was crossing the pedestrian lane in a section of the Maharlika Highway when she was hit by the truck driven by Enrique Tano in Barangay Lalig around 11:45 p.m.

The victim sustained serious body and head injuries and was taken to San Pablo Doctors Hospital in neighboring San Pablo City but died along the way.

Tano was detained and is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
