Trillanes withdraws bid to give written questions to SC justice
MANILA, Philippines–Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV has withdrawn his motion to serve “written interrogatories’’ to a Supreme Court justice in connection with the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
No less than Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile, presiding officer in the trial, announced the withdrawal of Trillanes’ motion for the service of the written interrogatories to Supreme Court
Associate Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno at the resumption Monday of the impeachment proceedings.
“The motion of the gentleman from Caloocan and Bicol to use the remedy of written interrogatories to get the testimony of honorable Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno of Supreme has been withdrawn,” said Enrile.
Before this, the senators held a caucus to tackle the issue.
In a statement, Trillanes said he agreed to withdraw his motion “so as not to prejudice the intention of the prosecution to invite Justice Sereno to physically appear before the impeachment court.”
