Gov’t soldiers recover 3 guns after clash with rebels in Cagayan
TUGUEGARAO CITY—Army soldiers from the 77th Infantry Battalion recovered three guns after a five-minute skirmish Wednesday, Dec. 8, with New People’s Army rebels, in Gattaran town, Cagayan province, the military said Friday.
Capt. Rigor Pamittan, 5th Infantry Division’s new spokesperson, said the government soldiers were patrolling Sitio Salong in Barangay Tanglagan when an undetermined number of communist guerrillas attacked them.
Pamittan said the rebels belong to the Komiteng Probinsya Cagayan- Komiteng Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley.
He said the soldiers fought back, forcing the rebels to withdraw. No one was killed or injured from both camps.
Seized after the encounter were a carbine and two Springfield rifles used by the rebels.
