OLONGAPO CITY––The city government extended on Friday its coverage of COVID-19 booster shots to other frontliners after giving a third dose of the vaccine to more than 500 staff members of its main COVID-19 facility last week.
Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr., who led the rollout launch for the booster shot at the SMX Convention Center of SM Olongapo Central, said it was necessary to administer the third dose to those whose jobs are vulnerable to virus infection.
Among those who received the booster shots are personnel of the city health office and isolation facilities, barangay health workers, medical staff of the Department of Education, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, and Bureau of Quarantine.
Last week, the local government began administering booster shots to the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital staff members.
So far, the city has administered 245,537 doses (first and second) of the vaccine against the viral disease.
It has fully vaccinated over 60 percent of its target 182,000 residents, inching closer to herd immunity. INQ
