RESIDENTS in the mountain barangay of Mulao, Liloan town in northern Cebu now have easy access to water with the installation of 17 communal faucets in the area.
The faucets were installed near the houses, allowing residents to easily fetch water at a cost of P1 per gallon and P10 per barrel. Fees are collected from users for the water system maintenance.
The project is a partnership of the Cebu provincial government, municipality of Liloan and Aboitiz Foundation Inc. Capitol provided funds for the entire water system, the foundation donated pipelines and pumps, while the local government identified sources of water in the area.
The project was inaugurated last Feb. 8 with Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia leading the ceremonies.
In her speech, the governor said the Mulao water system is proof of cooperation between the public and private sectors. Representatives from the Aboitiz Group urged the residents to help ensure the sustainability of the project so more people could benefit from it.
