Cool weather to persist over Luzon, Visayas; fair weather in Mindanao – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The prevailing cool weather in the past days will continue over Luzon and Visayas amid overcast skies and light rain on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its latest forecast released Thursday afternoon, the state weather bureau also said that Mindanao’s weather on Friday will be fair in general.

Pagasa weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, will bring cloudy skies and rain in Cagayan Valley, as well as scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the Bicol Region.

“The rest of Luzon including Metro Manila ay magkakaroon naman ng maaliwalas na panahon at tiyansa ng mga mahihinang pagulan,” he said.

(The rest of Luzon including Metro Manila will have clear weather with a chance of light rain.)

“So makikita natin na may kalamigan sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon, dahil pa rin ‘yan sa patuloy na pagihip ng ating malamig na hangin,” he added.

(So we can see cold weather over a large portion of Luzon due to the constant blowing of cold air.)

The same weather conditions will prevail over Visayas and the Caraga region in Northern Mindanao, Ordinario likewise said, while the rest of Mindanao will experience generally fair weather with chances of isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Pagasa issued the following temperature range prediction in key cities/areas across the country for Friday:

Ordinario further said that due to the effects of the northeast monsoon, a gale warning is raised in the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon, the eastern and western seaboards of Southern Luzon and Western Visayas, as well as the eastern seaboard of Mindanao.
